Description: |
USAID’s India Development Partnership Activity aims to amplify and broaden the effectiveness of the joint partnership between the U.S. Government and Government of India’s (GOI) engagement in and finance for development activities across the Indo-Pacific region and globally. USAID will collaborate with the GOI’s Development Partnership Administration (DPA) to bolster its impact as a development partner and stabilizing actor, fostering regional stability and supporting regional connectivity in line with the U.S. Government’s (USG) Indo-Pacific vision and South Asia strategy. Through this activity, USAID will support the DPA to provide technical assistance to countries (regionally and globally) in a variety of areas, including, but not limited to: energy; natural resource management; digital technology and connectivity; trade and competitiveness; democracy and governance; agriculture; health; gender equality; and disaster risk management. This activity will leverage both USAID’s and India’s comparative advantages and achievements to improve economic outcomes in the region and achieve our shared goals for the development of the Indo-Pacific region. The DPA has four Divisions. DPA I deals with project appraisal and lines of credit. This includes grant assistance projects in the East, South and West African regions, grant assistance projects in Bangladesh and the Sri Lanka Housing project. DPA II deals with capacity building programs, disaster relief, and the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation program (ITEC). DPA-II also handles grant assistance projects in Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and West Asia and in Latin American countries. Humanitarian and disaster relief is also handled by this division. DPA III deals with the implementation of grant assistance projects in Afghanistan, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Finally, DPA IV, created in January 2020, will focus on cultural heritage. DPA uses various implementation modes to achieve programmatic success: lines of credit, grants, technical assistance, consultancy, disaster relief, humanitarian aid, educational scholarships and a wide range of capacity building programs including short-term civilian and military training courses. |
